What is the Atlantic Resiliency Innovation Institute (ARII)?

ARII is:

  • The parent organization and home for The  Atlantic Resiliency Coastal Hazard Lab  & The Atlantic Resiliency Coastal Academy
  • Building a science-based community to bring to market the next generation of coastal hazard mitigation solutions through workforce development programs and our federally funded research lab
  • Established through a collaboration of the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce, Northeastern University, the Town of Marshfield, and Public School Districts.

of K-12 Students Accessing STEM Curriculum

ARII’s 2-year start-up plan is working to build an independent innovation hub supported by 10+ permanent employees providing workforce development and high-tech skill certification training for 80+ workers per year, and integrating with local and regional school systems enabling enhanced STEM curriculum for 1,000’s of K-12 students, and generate new coastal hazard solutions to improve regional resiliency.

5 Year Goals

  • Grow ARII to 10 permanent staff
  • Transition ARII operation to permanent funding via industry partnerships, endowment,
    and lab revenue
  • Academy Workforce Development: 2 cohorts per year containing 40 students; totaling 350+students over 5 years
  • Academy STEM-Enrichment: an experience for all ~3,900 Marshfield Public School Department students every academic year and at least 1 HS-level opportunity for 10 adjacent communities (Cohasset, Duxbury, Hanover, Hingham, Kingston, Norwell, Pembroke, Plymouth, Scituate, and Weymouth)
  • Academy to acquire a permanent HQ
  • Transition Atlantic Resiliency Coastal Hazard Lab operation to permanent funding via paid research, as well as state and federal agency contracts
  • Lab filing and disclosing Intellectual Property (IP) regularly; hired an IP portfolio manager
  • Lab executed revenue-generating IP licensing agreements
  • Lab to host annual industry and academic conference to showcase research and attract talent
    to the region
  • ARII host annual community day to share lessons learned with regional residents
